To be effective is to be understood. Have a dictionary ready at your desk as reference in your daily writing. Read newspapers daily so you'll how to write concisely and briefly.
Avoid obsolete phrases, like in order to, avoid this altogether.
Learn basic grammar. For example the adverb every day should be written in two words.
But if you are using the word as adjective, then make it one work. e.g. everyday life in the city;
I go to office every day-- 2 words. Drink Milo every day ( 2 words);
use short words: utilize to use; encourag to urge...
